Some days she's a warrior.
Some days she's a mess.
Most days she's a bit of both, but everyday she's there.
Standing.
Fighting,
Determined to make a difference.
This past week, I was asked to pray for a local young woman in town. She was in the 🏥 with Covid and sadly, her care has been nothing short of terrible.
She went in for help because she was having trouble breathing. The doctors were pushing remdesivir and intubation. She wanted to avoid both.
For the record, remdesivir is known for shutting your kidneys down, fluid builds up and goes into your lungs, pneumonia settles in, and then they intubate you which has a very strong possibility of taking your life.
The hospital decided she needed more 👀 and care so moved her into ICU and after having a lengthy convo with her, the ICU doc wanted to try an antibody treatment in hopes of avoiding intubation. These were her wishes.
The next morning we found out that they hadn’t followed thru with antibody treatment and were preparing her for intubation. At this time, she HAD NOT developed pneumonia and the reason she wanted to avoid intubation in the first place.
Meanwhile, she felt as if she was starting to feel a little better each day, though she was weak and very tired.
They intubated her with no explanation as to why they hadn’t followed thru with antibody treatment.
She has since developed pneumonia and has been given a 40% chance to live.
Intubation causes unnecessary pneumonia and she had felt as if she was starting to feel better before they intubated her.
Before you ask me if she was 💉, I truly don't know and you know what, it doesn't matter.
Whether you are or aren't, no one should be treated in a way that goes against their wishes. I would think that we could all agree on that.
What caused the 🏥 to do what they did and what can you do to prevent this from happening to you?
First, make sure you have a medical power of attorney or proxy in place. Hospitals will only speak to those who are legally appointed.
Second, please don't sign anything on an electronic pad. They are required to tell you that you can get any of the documents in writing before ✒️ anything. It has come to my attention that some hospitals are doing things against the patient's wishes because of that signature. Read the documents and make notes if there is something that you have a question about before signing it.
Last week, I personally had an experience in a doctor's office upon checking in. When I asked for the documents instead of signing the pad, she did share them, but only after telling me that as long as I behaved with the staff, I would get good care.
Why would I get that type of response from her? What is happening with our healthcare?
Third, ask questions. If you aren't getting your ❓❓ answered, you have the right to a second opinion. You also have the right to ask for the hospital board to review your case if you aren't satisfied with your care.
Lastly, please pray. Pray for this woman. Pray for people that are sick.
Pray for our 👩⚕️ 👨⚕️ to give the right care.
While I do believe we have great 👩⚕️ 👨⚕️ that want to treat patients fairly, they are getting overshadowed and many are leaving the industry.
This post is not about dividing us - our goverment is doing a good enough job of that.
It's not about who is 💉 or who isn't.
It's about truth.
My worst fear has come true - that truth is that hospitals are following what the three letter agencies are telling them and it is killing people.
I've been a mess upon coming to this realization.
But I am determined to speak up and stand for all of us.
I determined to make a difference.
Because everyone of you are worth it and that will always be the truth.
