The First Medicine God Created...Light

Before there were doctors.
Before there were supplements.
Before there were wellness plans.
There was light.
"And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light."— Genesis 1:3
The very first thing God created was light.
Not food.
Not movement.
Not even humanity.
Light.
That alone should cause us to pause.
Light Was Never Meant to Be Optional
From the very beginning, light was woven into the rhythm of creation.
Day and night.
Work and rest.
Awake and asleep.
Our bodies were designed to respond to that rhythm.
When morning light enters your eyes, it signals your brain to wake up.
Hormones shift.
Cortisol rises naturally (the healthy morning rise).
Energy begins to build. Your internal clock resets.
This isn’t accidental.
This is design.
But modern life has quietly disrupted this rhythm.
We wake up to artificial light.
We look at screens before sunrise.
We stay indoors most of the day.
We fall asleep under blue light late at night.
And then we wonder why we struggle with:
• Poor sleep
• Belly fat storage
• Mood changes
• Brain fog
• Hormonal imbalance
Light regulates far more than we realize.
Morning Light and Hormones
One of the most overlooked truths in modern health is this:
Morning sunlight helps regulate your hormones.
When your eyes are exposed to natural light early in the day:
• Your circadian rhythm resets
• Cortisol follows a healthy pattern
• Melatonin is produced at the proper time later that night
• Metabolism functions more efficiently
• Blood sugar regulation improves
And yes… this affects belly fat storage.
When cortisol stays elevated at night due to disrupted light exposure, the body shifts into stress mode.
Chronic stress signals can encourage fat storage—especially around the midsection.
But when light exposure is aligned with God’s natural rhythm, the body responds differently.
Calmer.
More regulated.
More efficient.
This is not a trendy wellness hack.
This is returning to creation.
Light Impacts the Nervous System
Sunlight also plays a role in mood and mental clarity.
It stimulates serotonin production—the “feel calm and steady” neurotransmitter.
It helps regulate the nervous system.
It signals safety to the brain.
And in a world where so many women live in a constant state of stress, this matters deeply.
God didn’t create us to live under fluorescent lights and constant digital stimulation.
He created sunrise and sunset.
And He called it good.
Light and Cellular Health
Beyond hormones and mood, light exposure indirectly supports cellular function.
When sleep improves, cellular repair improves.
When circadian rhythm is aligned, the body’s natural protective systems function more efficiently.
Light is foundational.
It sets the stage for restoration.
Without proper light exposure, other wellness efforts can feel like swimming upstream.
With it, the body begins to cooperate.
A Simple Return
You don’t need a complicated plan to begin.
Step outside within 30 minutes of waking.
Stand in natural light for 5–10 minutes.
No sunglasses.
No phone.
Just light.
Breathe deeply.
Thank God for a new day.
Allow your body to receive what He created first.
Small daily returns create profound shifts over time.
Returning to What Was Established First
The world will tell you healing is complicated.
But Scripture shows us something different.
The first medicine God created was light.
And perhaps the first step toward restoration is simply stepping back into it.
"The Lord is my light and my salvation."— Psalm 27:1
When we return to His rhythms, the body often follows.
And healing begins quietly.
